A port on the move this week

The Costa Diadema call comes after a week of great activity at the Cádiz quays. On Thursday, November 5, three cruise ships docked: the Mein Schiff 4, with 2,619 passengers and a German majority, at the Alfonso XIII quay; the Norwegian Gem, with 1,872 American passengers, at the Marqués de Comillas; and the Wind Surf, with 314 passengers, at the Ciudad quay. Among the three they totaled 4,805 passengers. The previous day, Wednesday, November 4, the Sun Princess and the Aida Blu had called, bringing together 6,399 passengers. With Friday's, that makes six cruise ships that have passed through Cádiz in four days. The Costa Diadema is the only cruise ship scheduled for this Friday in the city, so it concentrates the day's traveler traffic in a single ship. Its stay lasts twelve hours, from early morning until well into the afternoon, a wide margin for passengers to go ashore and tour the historic center. The arrival of the ship represents a new peak of visitors in a week in which the Cádiz port chains large-scale calls. The disembarkation of thousands of cruise passengers is noticeable in the city center, in shops and in hospitality during the central hours of the day.
