The third edition of Gaditanoir, the Cádiz Crime Fiction Festival, is held from this Thursday, November 5, until Sunday, November 8. The activities are split between two venues: the Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz (APC), which hosts Thursday's events, and the Casa de Iberoamérica, where the sessions from Friday to Sunday take place. The line-up features more than 30 participants, including authors, publishers and journalists. Of these, 14 writers are from the province of Cádiz, 12 from the rest of Spain and two international, one Mexican and one Argentine. The organisation explains that the maximum capacity planned for each activity, around twenty, is 150 people.

Agatha Christie and the awards gala

One of this year's thematic focuses is the remembrance of Agatha Christie, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of her death. The session on Friday, November 6 will review the author's relevance. The other main focus is titled 'Criminology, journalism and society'. On Saturday, November 7, at 20:30, the awards ceremony is held. It will present the Gaditanoir Honorary Award for a lifetime achievement to the journalist and writer Óscar Lobato. The José Rasero Balón de Novela Negra Award, which annually recognises an outstanding work of the crime genre, and the The Riverside Crime Story Award will also be presented. The festival is organised by Kaizen Editores and is sponsored by the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz and the CSIF union, as well as with the collaboration of the Ayuntamiento de Cádiz and the APC, among other entities. The deputy and vice-president of the Fundación Provincial de Cultura, Vanesa Beltrán, has stated that Cádiz «tiene mucho que contar» and is «llena de rincones que parecen sacados de una novela». The festival's commissioner, Alberto Puyana, has stressed that «el boom del género en nuestra provincia es incuestionable». Entry is free, although access conditions may vary depending on each event. The full programme can be consulted at the festival's website.
