Doctor Fleming street in Rota and its surroundings, in the El Molino area, will change their appearance in the coming months. The redevelopment works, which began in October, are already progressing in their first section, the one closest to the Rompidillo seafront promenade, and from there they will move on to the rest of the streets and spaces included in the project. The main change will be the introduction of a single-level platform, which removes the current unevenness and makes pedestrian movement easier. Space for motor traffic will also be reduced, in favour of people and more accessible mobility. The work is not limited to Doctor Fleming. It includes various sections of Nuestra Señora de Fátima, del Tejar and Almendros streets, as well as the plaza del Molino. In all of them there will be new benches, trees and improvements to the garden areas, along with the renewal of street furniture. There is also work beneath the pavement. The sewage and water supply networks will be renewed and conduits will be installed for the electrical cabling. The lighting that currently runs along the facades will be replaced by new columns and more efficient luminaires.

In phases to reduce disruption

The works are organised in phases so that they develop progressively and reduce disruption to residents as far as possible, according to the Ayuntamiento de Rota. The award budget is 675,243.95 euros, VAT included. Of that amount, 445,000 euros come from a grant from the Plan Extraordinario de Inversiones de la Diputación de Cádiz 2025, the Plan Cádiz en Marcha 2025, and the rest is financed with municipal funds. The improvement of El Molino does not stop at these streets. In the same area, work is under way on the comprehensive improvement of the parque de la Miga and the plaza José Navarrete. The mayor of Rota, José Javier Ruiz Arana, has visited the works accompanied by municipal technicians and representatives of the contracting company.
