Ruiz de Somavía street in Sanlúcar de Barrameda now has a new sanitation network in the section closest to Banda Playa street. The City Council, through the concessionary company for the integral water cycle, Aqualia, is replacing the old asbestos-cement pipes with PVC ones after the ground sank due to the deterioration of the pipe. The work also includes the well located at the intersection with de la Plata street, where the current pipe is likewise being replaced with a PVC one. The investment amounts to 35,498 euros, as detailed by the Consistory. The origin of the problem lies, according to the City Council, in the advanced state of deterioration of the pipe, the lack of maintenance over the last two decades and the exhaustion of its useful life. Asbestos-cement, the material being removed, is what has been used in a good part of the city's old networks.

Other streets already renovated

The one on Ruiz de Somavía is not the first intervention of this type. The City Council points out that since the beginning of the term, similar works have been carried out on Historiador Velázquez Gaztelu street, where a broader remodeling of the road is also planned for 2027, and on San Antonio street, with more than 49,300 euros to replace and remove 36 meters of pipe between Rubiños and Sargenta streets. Work has also been carried out in the coastal area located between Bonanza and the Baluarte de San Salvador and on Puerto street. Currently, the work is focused on improving the network at the confluence of San Nicolás street with Cabo Noval avenue. The local Government chaired by mayor Carmen Álvarez states that these works respond to its commitment to modernize urban infrastructures and to recover essential public services with interventions that have an impact on the quality of life of the neighborhood.
