IES Coloma hosts an exhibition on 42 women who made history
The Delegación de Igualdad de Jerez has installed the educational exhibition «Mujeres que jugaban al escondite» at IES Coloma, featuring 42 biographies of writers, politicians and thinkers. Schools can request to borrow it.
The exhibition «Mujeres que jugaban al escondite. Escritoras, políticas y pensadoras» can now be visited at IES Coloma. The display brings together 42 biographies of women who have left their mark on literature, science and thought, such as Virginia Woolf, Ada Byron, María Moliner, Frida Kahlo, Clara Campoamor and María Zambrano.
What can be seen
The exhibition occupies a gallery at the school. At the opening, the students took centre stage by performing musical pieces and reciting poems by some of the authors included in the display.
The activity is part of the Jerez Educa Municipal Education Programme, according to the Delegación de Igualdad y Diversidad. The event served to commemorate Día de las Escritoras.
From an illustrated book to the classroom
The display stems from the illustrated book «Mujeres que jugaban al escondite», written by Raquel Díez, a teacher and writer from Jerez, and illustrated by Tamara Durán. The Delegación de Igualdad y Diversidad has adapted the work into an exhibition format in collaboration with the authors and Editorial Algar, with a foreword by Elisa Constanza.
The book's educational proposal received the Rosa Regás Award, given by the Junta de Andalucía to coeducational materials, in its XVII edition, in 2023.
How to request it
To make it easier to lend to schools, the exhibition has been divided into three parts: Mujeres en el Arte, Mujeres Escritoras and Mujeres en la Ciencia. Each school that requests the display will receive a copy of the book published by Algar Editorial to include in its library's Rincones Violetas.
The opening was attended by the deputy mayor of Igualdad y Diversidad, Susana Sánchez; the school's director, Moisés García Fresno; the equality coordinator, Carmen Espejo; teachers and students.
