International Library Day is marked on Saturday, October 24, and Rota is celebrating it with three events spread between Wednesday the 21st and that same Saturday. Two of them are free and open to the public, and the third brings puppet theatre to all the primary schools in the town.
Puppets for all first-year primary pupils
From this Wednesday the 21st until Friday, October 23, the Severiano Alonso municipal auditorium, in the Casa de la Cultura, hosts the puppet show Garbancito en la barriga del buey, by the company La Gotera de la Azotea. The activity is part of the Municipal Education Programme and all first-year primary pupils in Rota will attend, as all primary schools have joined the initiative.
Comic workshop on Friday afternoon
On Friday, October 23, at 17:00, the same auditorium will host the workshop Perspectiva de género en los cómics, led by Agu Ariza. It is aimed at anyone interested in comics and their evolution from a critical and social perspective. Its goals include encouraging comic reading, raising awareness of the role of women in this field, presenting works and authors linked to gender equality and highlighting visual storytelling as a cultural and educational tool.
Free family theatre on Saturday
The programme will close on Saturday, October 24, with the children's and family show El viajero y la Burrita, by Niumpaloal-Arte. It will begin at 12:30 at the Severiano Alonso municipal auditorium and entry will be free until full capacity is reached.
How to take part
The comic workshop on Friday, October 23, starts at 17:00 at the Severiano Alonso auditorium, in the Casa de la Cultura. The show on Saturday, October 24, is at 12:30 at the same venue and requires no ticket: entry is free until full capacity is reached.
The three activities are organised by the Libraries Department of the Culture Delegation of Rota Town Council within the Planeamos programme of the Diputación de Cádiz. The Libraries Department invites the public to take part and says it will continue to strengthen the role of libraries as reference cultural spaces.
