The Cádiz Carnival marquee for 2027 will open four days less than in previous editions and will be installed on Avenida de Astilleros, far from residential areas. These are two of the measures against street drinking that the Cádiz City Council will apply in February, according to the mayor, Bruno García, after chairing the Carnival Participation Council in the street.
The venue will not open on Thursday, February 4. It will start on Friday, February 5, and will remain open on Saturday, February 6, Sunday, February 7, and Monday, February 8. It will remain closed on Tuesday, February 9, and Wednesday, February 10, and will reopen on Thursday, February 11, Friday, February 12, and Saturday, February 13, which will be the last day. In addition, its dimensions are reduced, which allows the move to Astilleros and avoids moving vehicles from the parking spaces for residents next to the wall.
More coplas and fewer speakers
The focus of those days will be on the coplas. There will be performances by legal and illegal groups in the streets and on the stages set up by peñas, entities and the City Council around the city. Leisure establishments will be the ones to meet nighttime demand, as during the rest of the year.
On the second Saturday of Carnival there will be no concert in the Plaza de San Antonio. Instead, the finalist groups of the Concurso Oficial de Agrupaciones Carnavalescas (COAC) 2027, hired by the City Council, will perform. Thus, the two Saturdays of the official program will have Carnival performances in the street and COAC finalist groups on the city's stages.
Music with speakers is also banned at the counters that establishments set up for the festival. The City Council will reinforce awareness campaigns about the essence of the Cádiz festival, the copla, against street drinking. These measures are added to others from previous years, such as the fencing of the Cathedral steps, the battle of coplas between quartets «Dos palos al botellón» in the Plaza de la Catedral or the end of the San Antonio concerts at twelve midnight.
Subsidies and food festivals
Subsidies for the peñas and entities that organize activities rise 17% compared to the previous year, 38,650 euros more, to a total of 267,450 euros, as detailed by the deputy mayor of Fiestas and Carnaval, Beatriz Gandullo.
The approved food calendar begins on January 2 with the Pestiñada Popular. Then come the Erizada on the 10th, the Mejillonada on the 17th, the Ostionada Popular on the 24th and the Gambada Popular on the 31st. These dates are subject to the approval of the corresponding subsidies.
