The buildings of the former municipal campsite at the Pinar de la Villa, next to the Rota road, will no longer be unused. Chipiona Town Council is launching a project to refurbish them and turn them into a warehouse, a multipurpose space and a kiosk, according to the Department of Urban Planning.
The work has the authorisation of the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment in Cádiz to begin the works and has a budget of 173.922,36 euros.
Three phases of work
The first phase will be devoted to repairing the roofs, which have damage from the accumulation of vegetation, broken ceramic tiles and deterioration of the partition walls and slab elements. These works will be paid for with municipal funds, because the cost of auxiliary means and the need for qualified personnel prevent them from being financed with the subsidies planned for the rest of the project.
The second phase will recover the building that will house the kiosk, to put it into operation as soon as possible and boost the area. It includes the repair of the envelope, the interior distribution networks, the flooring, new interior partitions and the installation of carpentry and security grilles. It will be financed under the 2026 Agricultural Employment Promotion Programme (PFEA), with subsidies to hire unemployed people. Priority will be given to temporary workers included in the Special System for Agricultural Salaried Workers of the Social Security.
The third phase will refurbish the building intended as a multipurpose space, with actions similar to those of the kiosk. It will be paid for with the 2027 PFEA and under the same hiring conditions.
Picnic area and access
The project also contemplates conditioning the adjoining picnic area, clearing the access path, repairing the enclosure to resolve the damp problems, opening up blocked-up window openings and installing new interior electricity, water supply and sanitation networks.
The councillor for Urban Planning, Pepe Mellado, has explained that the municipal intention is to put an end to the state of abandonment of the buildings and provide the area with a kiosk that serves the residents and those travelling along the Rota road. Mellado has indicated that the future multipurpose space will be able to host meetings, talks, conferences and workshops, and serve as storage and logistical support for the Town Council.
The initiative is coordinated by the departments of Urban Planning and the Environment, led by Pepe Mellado and Tano Guzmán, respectively.
