The installation of the special Christmas lighting in La Línea de la Concepción begins this week. It will do so with more streets illuminated than in other years and with a change of scene: the illuminated pine tree that until now was placed in the Plaza de la Constitución will this time be installed in the Paseo de Camarón. The Plaza de la Constitución is left out of this year's ornamental plan. The reason is the start of the remodelling works project for this area, as announced by the Ayuntamiento. The work is being carried out by the company Iluminaciones Ximénez. Among the main points of the installation are the Plaza de la Iglesia, with renovated designs, and the Saccone gardens, which will host the traditional Christmas village and other decorative elements.

The Plaza de la Constitución, under construction

The change of location of the pine tree and the absence of the Plaza de la Constitución from the Christmas lighting are explained by the start of the rehabilitation of that area. The project had already begun at the end of October, when execution was planned, the garage structures were analysed and the offices where the Csif union had its headquarters were vacated so that the awarded company could use them. The perimeter fencing of the square was planned for the following week, once the street vendors had been moved to calle Jardines, where they have been carrying out their activity since Tuesday, November 3. The work was awarded to Eiffage Infraestructuras, S.A. for 4.531.197,32 euros, co-financed with European Feder funds within the Integrated Action Plans for Local Entities.

Awaiting the inauguration

The date for switching on the lighting has not yet been set. The municipal department of Fiestas, led by Mercedes Atanet, has indicated that it will be confirmed at a press conference to be called in the coming dates. The department has highlighted the municipal effort to extend the lighting to more streets.
