The Ayuntamiento de San Roque has asked the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz to reconsider its decision not to teach in the municipality two training itineraries in social and health care aimed at people who are unemployed. The courses were planned at facilities of the Agencia de Desarrollo Local (Amdel), which had already handed over the space for the classes and had helped interested people to submit their applications.

Two courses for unemployed people

The itineraries are entitled «Atención sociosanitaria a personas dependientes en instituciones sociales» and «Atención sociosanitaria a personas en el domicilio». They are part of the Empleo Cerca project, which has funding from the Fondo Social Europeo Plus (FSE+) 2012-27. They are aimed at unemployed people and give priority to those who have the most difficulty finding work, such as the long-term unemployed and women over 45. According to the teniente de alcalde delegado de Amdel y Empleo, Fernando Vega, the latest information available suggests that the Diputación has backed down, although the Ayuntamiento is still awaiting official confirmation. Vega has stated that in San Roque there are suitable facilities for these two courses and that there are already numerous people who have submitted the required documentation with the intention of taking them.

Request for reconsideration

The councillor has demanded that the Instituto de Empleo y Desarrollo Socioeconómico y Tecnológico (IEDT) of the Diputación reconsider its position because, in his view, there is still room to do so as there has been no official confirmation. Vega has warned that, if they are ultimately not taught, the greatest harm will be to the people who had already registered. The teniente de alcalde has gone further and pointed to possible unequal treatment: «we could think that this is discrimination by an institution governed by the PP towards the Ayuntamiento de San Roque, simply for having a PSOE government», he has stated.
