A national auction and activities for everyone
On Sunday the 8th, at 12:00, the National Livestock Auction is held, one of the central moments of the fair. In addition, the «Todos en Fegasur» programme reinforces activities to raise awareness of the agricultural and livestock production of the province. There will be technical talks, visits by school groups, workshops, gastronomic tastings and children's tastings. The exhibition «Bestiarium», by photographer José Barea, with images of native breeds of select livestock, can also be seen.
The fair returns after two years in which it had to be suspended due to outbreaks of infectious diseases that affected the animals, and this edition marks its silver anniversary. The president of the Provincial Council, Almudena Martínez, has emphasised the generational renewal of the primary sector: «It is very important to pass on the value of agriculture and livestock farming to the new generations,» she assured during the opening.
The Provincial Council has allocated 6.6 million euros in subsidies to livestock farming, agriculture and fishing in the current term, according to Martínez. The institution is also working on the preservation of native breeds and on the remodelling of the Agricultural and Livestock Experimental Centre (CEAG), where the first livestock reproduction laboratory in Andalusia will be located. The second vice-president, Javier Vidal, has called for dignifying the working conditions of the countryside and for presenting it as an alternative for the future for the youngest.
