The centenary of the birth of José Manuel Caballero Bonald (1926-2026) comes to the Museos de la Atalaya with two tribute days, on Thursday, November 12 and Friday, November 13. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
The event begins on Thursday, November 12 at 18.00 hours with the opening and the presentation of the book «Soy mi libertad y mis palabras. Lecturas de poemas de José Manuel Caballero Bonald», promoted by the Fundación Caballero Bonald and the Universidad de Almería. That session will feature the writer's daughter, Julia Caballero Ramis, together with her children José Manuel and Alejandro and her granddaughter Julita Caballero.
Afterwards, the meta-documentary «Fragmentos de navegante», directed by Paula Romero and produced by La Zanfona, Santa Paciencia Films and Fuega Cine, will premiere, and there will be a round table with participants in the production.
Poetry, cinema and flamenco
On Friday, November 13 the programme continues with the presentation of the double edition of «Las adivinaciones» (1952/2012), with documentary material, and of the reissue of the CD «Jerez a Caballero Bonald», produced by the Fundación. The day will include a performance by flamenco artists.
Writers and friends of the author such as Felipe Benítez Reyes, Juan José Téllez, José Ramón Ripoll and José María Velázquez-Gaztelu will take part in the tribute, together with specialists in his work such as José Jurado Morales, professor of Spanish Literature at the Universidad de Cádiz, and María José Flores Requejo, professor at the Università de L'Aquila. Josefa Parra, poet and director of the Fundación Caballero Bonald, and José María Candón Romero, linked to the annotated edition of «Las adivinaciones», also participate. In the journalistic section are José Manuel Benítez Ariza, Alejandro Luque and Fran Pereira, and in flamenco, Fermín Lobatón, Antonio Lafarque and Mario González.
The meeting is organised by the Fundación Caballero Bonald, with the support of the Ayuntamiento de Jerez and the collaboration of other institutions participating in the centenary. It is part of the Año Caballero Bonald 2026-2027, which extends over twelve months with activities for schoolchildren, university students, readers and fans of literature and flamenco. Throughout 2026, initiatives such as the centenary's presence at the Feria del Libro de Jerez or a Spanish-Portuguese meeting on the translation of the poetry of the Generation of '50 have already been held, and the programme will continue in 2027.
