The Palacio de Congresos de La Línea de la Concepción hosts from Tuesday, October 20 to Thursday, October 22 the XXIV International Congress and Exhibition of Beaches ECOPLAYAS 2026, a meeting on sustainability and coastal management organized by the Asociación Técnica para la Gestión de Residuos, Aseo Urbano y Medio Ambiente (ATEGRUS), with the collaboration of the Ayuntamiento and the sponsorship of the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz.
Two local projects, in the programme
Among the presentations are two initiatives from the area. Rafael Fosela García, head of service of the delegación de Playas del Ayuntamiento, will present the «Estructuras Generadoras de Vida» of the Proyecto PREMPPA, promoted by the consistorio and the Club de Buceo Campo de Gibraltar to recover marine species from accidental fishing and favour the regeneration of the seabed. For his part, the professor of Ecology at the Universidad de Cádiz Fernando G. Brun Murillo will address the restoration of the seagrass meadows of the Poniente coast and their role in coastal conservation.
Six thematic blocks over three days
The opening day on Tuesday, October 20 will address the sustainable development of the coast and geotechnical and governance solutions against climate change, and in the afternoon will include a guided visit of the municipality for attendees.
Wednesday, October 21 will be dedicated to invasive species, with attention to the alga Rugulopteryx okamurae and the management of wrack deposits, as well as the control of the microbiological quality of bathing waters and citizen science. That day there will be a demonstration of specialised machinery on the playa de Poniente.
Thursday, October 22 will focus on rescue, lifeguarding, accessibility and inclusion on the coast, and will close with the block «Horizonte 2030 – Destinos Sostenibles», on new technologies, sensorization and sustainable tourism. The congress will end with the presentation of the Premios Banderas ECOPLAYAS and the institutional closing ceremony.

The official opening will be led by the alcalde de La Línea de la Concepción, Juan Franco.
