Around twenty people have finished their first handmade nativity scene in Rota. They did so in the introductory course to nativity-making promoted by the nativity association «Camino de Belén», which has closed with an exhibition of the works and the presentation of diplomas to those who have completed the training.
Two weeks of manual work
The course lasted two weeks and was taught by instructor Jorge Niño. During that time, the students have learned the basic techniques for making a handmade nativity scene in its different phases: from cutting and gluing the cork to plastering, painting and applying the final details. Each participant has been able to complete and take home their own nativity scene, made entirely by hand.
Family members and diplomas
The closing event brought together family members and friends of the participants, who were able to see the works in an exhibition organised for that purpose. The day included the traditional presentation of certificates to the students who have completed the training.
The regional congress, the next challenge
The president of the association, Miguel Moreno, congratulated the participants on the quality of the works exhibited and acknowledged Jorge Niño's dedication during the two weeks of training. He also recalled the challenge that holding the next Regional Nativity Congress in Rota represents for the organisation, an event that, he indicated, will require the effort and involvement of its members.
The municipal councillor for Citizen Participation, Nuria López, accompanied the association at the closing and thanked them for their work in promoting nativity-making, a tradition with deep family roots that, she noted, helps keep this craft art alive and pass on its techniques.
