The Andalusian Aquaculture Technology Centre (CTAQUA) will receive 545,000 euros in European funds for two innovation projects. The money comes from the InnovAndalucía programme, within the Feder 2021-2027 funds line, according to the Ayuntamiento de El Puerto de Santa María.
What the money will be used for
The first project seeks to expand the centre's technical capabilities to improve its competitiveness and innovation and to respond to the business fabric in nutrition, health, animal welfare and environmental sustainability. The second aims to provide the technology centre in El Puerto with new technological infrastructures that allow the aquaculture sector to be boosted through diversification and the development of new products.
A centre with almost two decades of work
CTAQUA is a private non-profit foundation, established in 2007, that works to respond to the needs of the aquaculture and seafood sectors. Its lines of action cover food and nutrition, health and animal welfare, new species, the environment and seafood processing.
Its facilities, at the commercial quay of El Puerto, carry out research work in freshwater, brackish and saltwater aquaculture. It also provides services to the sector such as monitoring production work, advice and technical and scientific training. The equipment includes animal health laboratories, an algae culture room, outdoor cultures, an R&D&I pilot plant for processed products and a food technology laboratory.
Council assessment
The councillor for Companies and Self-Employed Workers, Carmelo Navarro, has expressed his satisfaction at the granting of these grants and has stressed the work of the foundation.
