The Asociación Cultural Amigos del Chumi has presented eight social organisations in El Puerto de Santa María with the donations obtained from the II Ciclo Flamenco Bajo la luz de la luna. The proceeds from the donation-tickets for the eight shows brought together by the cycle are shared equally among those same eight groups.
Who receives them
The beneficiary organisations are the Asociación de Pacientes Cardíacos y Anticoagulados Portuenses, Amal Esperanza, Afa Puerto, the Hermanas Comendadoras del Espíritu Santo, the Asociación Nueva Bahía, the Hermandad de la Misericordia, the Hogar de la Esperanza and the Asociación de Mujeres con Cáncer Bahía.
A cycle from June to September
The programme has run between June and September and has combined established flamenco figures with young artists. The line-up has included José Carlos Marchante, Ezequiel Benítez, Marisa Sainz, Antonio Reyes, Jesús Méndez, Lucía Aliaño, Reyes Carrasco and Wilo del Puerto, among other performers.
The president of the Asociación Cultural Amigos del Chumi, Manuel García de Quirós, has said that "when culture and solidarity walk together, the result goes far beyond what happens on a stage".
Municipal backing
The deputy mayor for Relaciones con la Ciudadanía, Javier Bello, has attended the presentation at the association's headquarters and has congratulated the organisation on an initiative that, he said, "combines culture, coexistence and solidarity". Bello has also thanked the artists for taking part and Radio Puerto for its coverage.
