Olive oil mills will have to set aside 12% of the production they declare each month starting in November. That quantity cannot return to the market until September 30, 2027, according to a statement from ASAJA Cádiz. The obligation applies to production declared for the month of November 2026 and following months. It does not apply to what was declared in October or in previous months. The withdrawn oil must always be kept in proportion to 12% of the accumulated production since November, and it may be stored in own or third-party facilities. The measure is activated because the threshold set in the marketing rule for the 2026/2027 campaign has been reached. Initial stocks stand at 357,040 tonnes and estimated national production at 1,602,596 tonnes, which gives the green light to the withdrawal. The portal already reported on November 2 that the rule published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) allowed part of the production to be temporarily withdrawn during this campaign, which runs from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. At that time the measure was not automatic: it would only be activated if stocks plus estimated production reached 120% of the average of the six previous campaigns. Now that condition has been met.

Documents to justify the storage

The affected mills must have on hand the documentation proving to the Administration how much oil they have withdrawn and in which facilities they store it. The resolution setting the percentage was published in the BOE on Friday, November 6, with reference BOE-A-2026-23330.
