Honey is once again the star in Prado del Rey. The tenth Beekeeping Fair of the Sierra de Cádiz is held from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25 at the fairground, with the president of the Diputación de Cádiz, Almudena Martínez, as honorary patron of this edition.
Sessions for professionals
The eleventh Technical Informative Sessions will be held at the Teatro Municipal Maestro José Toro Doblas. As detailed by the Diputación, they will address the impact and control of invasive species such as the Vespa orientalis and the Tropilaelaps mite, studies on the characterization and quality of the honeys of the Sierra de Cádiz, and new ways of using beekeeping products such as propolis.
For the whole family
On the morning of Friday, October 23, the honey breakfasts will begin at the municipality's schools. Throughout the weekend, the Ludoteca Aula Verde will be open at the fairground, with storytelling and children's and family workshops to make lip balms and natural wax candles.
Gastronomy and commercial promotion complete the program, with showcookings, the "Smash & Honey Burger" initiative, specialized tastings, live honey extraction demonstrations and the awards ceremony for the best honeys in the country. The commercial tent will host companies and professionals from the beekeeping sector.
Support for the sector
The mayor of Prado del Rey, Vanesa Beltrán, has stated that beekeeping helps keep the population in the territory and supports dozens of families. The president of the Asociación Apícola Sierra de Cádiz, José Luis Fernández, has thanked the institutions for their support in maintaining the sector and has highlighted the Diputación's backing for the Miel Sierra de Cádiz quality seal.
The Diputación de Cádiz collaborates with the Ayuntamiento de Prado del Rey and the Asociación Apícola Sierra de Cádiz in organizing the fair, which has been presented at the Palacio Provincial with the presence of the second vice president, Javier Vidal, and the deputy mayor Isabel Blanco.
