Prado del Rey opens its honey fair with 30 stands until Sunday

The tenth Beekeeping Fair of the Sierra de Cádiz opens this Friday at the Blas Infante fairground with around thirty honey producers.

The tenth Beekeeping Fair of the Sierra de Cádiz has opened its doors this Friday at the Blas Infante Fair Park in Prado del Rey, where it will remain until Sunday, October 25. Around thirty honey producers from the region exhibit and sell their products in the fair tent.
Opening hours
The exhibition tent can be visited on Friday from 13:00 to 21:00, on Saturday from 11:00 to 21:00 and on Sunday, the closing day, from 11:00 to 17:00. The programme includes live cooking demonstrations, tastings, competitions, workshops for children and a food tent.
Honey, a major sector
According to the Diputación de Cádiz, honey generates more than six million euros in the province and sustains around 60,000 hives spread across some 200 holdings. The president of the provincial institution, Almudena Martínez del Junco, has stated that the Sierra and Prado del Rey are "the hive of Europe" and has highlighted the work of beekeepers, whom she has encouraged to guarantee generational renewal.
Alongside the fair, the XI Divulgative Technical Conference is being held at the Teatro Municipal Maestro José Toro Doblas, focused on the control of invasive species such as the Asian hornet, on quality studies of the Sierra honeys and on new products such as propolis.
Recognition for the president
The Asociación Apícola de la Sierra de Cádiz has named Almudena Martínez an honorary member for her support of the sector. The distinction comes with the delivery of honey to an entity weighing a similar amount to the person honoured; in this case it will go to the convents of Santa María de Gracia, Santa Rita and San José de las Clarisas. The opening was also addressed by the mayor of Prado del Rey, Vanesa Beltrán, the territorial delegate for Agriculture of the Junta in Cádiz, Francisco Moreno, and the president of the association, José Luis Fernández.
