The mobile classroom of the Junta de Andalucía known as EducaBus has arrived at Parque Koutinoussa in Cádiz, where it offers free activities on biodiversity, climate change and recycling for all audiences. The space is open to the general public, although its main audience is schoolchildren.
Games and virtual reality
The content is presented through interactive games and virtual and augmented reality, with exhibition applications and proposals adapted to different educational levels and ages. The programme is organised around four axes: forest sustainability and biodiversity, the circular economy, climate change, and environmental digitalisation and innovation. These resources are used to explain environmental processes and their relationship with everyday habits, such as waste separation or the use of natural resources.
A route through the province
The unit began its tour last March and is now travelling through the province of Cádiz. In addition to the capital, its itinerary includes San Fernando, Jerez de la Frontera, Rota, Los Barrios, Algeciras, La Línea de la Concepción, Conil de la Frontera, Chipiona, Barbate, El Puerto de Santa María, Chiclana de la Frontera and Medina Sidonia. The programme runs until the end of July 2027 and includes around 200 stops in Andalusian municipalities.
How to request a visit
Entities interested in having the mobile classroom visit their municipality can request a visit through the Portal Ambiental de Andalucía, where requests and route planning are managed. In each municipality, the unit is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday. For enquiries there is a citizen service telephone number, 644 47 12 16, and an email address for booking group visits: educabus.csma@juntadeandalucia.es.
Environmental education in the classroom
The Regional Minister for Education, María del Carmen Castillo, has stated that the Red Andaluza de Ecoescuelas has 436 centres, more than 10,000 teachers and 164,000 pupils this academic year. These centres work on areas such as climate change, the conservation of biodiversity and geodiversity, forest ecosystems, the circular economy, the protection of the coast and the marine environment, and efficient water management. Castillo also mentioned programmes such as Aldea and Aulas Verdes Abiertas.
The Regional Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Fina Martínez, explained that the EducaBus is "an open travelling classroom, with outdoor activities as well, designed so that any Andalusian, regardless of age, can learn, experience and understand in a simple way how their everyday decisions influence the environment".
The visit was also attended by the Mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García; the delegate of the Junta government in the province, Mercedes Colombo; the territorial delegates Óscar Curtido and José Ángel Aparicio, and pupils from the María Auxiliadora and María Valle schools. The activity is part of those programmed for World Sustainability Day.
