The Cádiz Spanish Music Festival celebrates its twenty-fourth edition between November 13 and 23 with its sights set on Manuel de Falla, whose birth marks 150 years. The programme includes 35 works, 20 of them premieres, and is spread across nine venues in the city. At the Casa de Iberoamérica there will be two musical events on the weekend of November 14 and 15. Both will be at 12:00 noon, with free entry and no charge until full capacity is reached. On Saturday 14, Jácaras del Zéfiro will perform, a group founded by baritone Víctor Cruz that proposes a historically informed reading of early music. It combines voices, plucked strings, viola da gamba and percussion, with performers who approach the repertoire as a living language and not as museum pieces. On Sunday 15 it will be the turn of Kambrass Quintet with «Transfoliación: Metamorfosis de la folía». The programme starts from one of the oldest musical structures of the Iberian Peninsula, the folía, and traces its evolution from the Renaissance to contemporary creation. The composer Jan Bach signs the fusion of this baroque form with the brass quintet.

Nine venues and twenty premieres

The festival will roll out its programme at the Gran Teatro Falla, the Teatro del Títere La Tía Norica, the Casa de Iberoamérica, the Edificio Constitución 1812 of the University of Cádiz, the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Manuel de Falla, the Centro Cultural Unicaja, the Baluarte de la Candelaria, the Patio del Palacio de la Diputación Provincial and the Museo de Cádiz, as well as other venues linked to educational activities. The event explores Falla's relationship with flamenco, popular music, jazz and new generations of performers. The Regional Minister of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, Del Pozo, has stated that the programme «has become the ideal opportunity to celebrate his legacy from an innovative and cross-cutting perspective». The mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, has added that «this edition takes on even more importance because it coincides with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of our most universal native of Cádiz». Tickets for the concerts can be purchased through the pages of each show or by consulting the full programme on the website of the Cádiz Spanish Music Festival. The two recitals at the Casa de Iberoamérica do not require a ticket: access is free until full capacity is reached.
