La Plaza de la Constitución de Prado del Rey hosts this Saturday, October 17, the agri-food fair Saborea el campo, an event organised by the Asociación Agraria de Jóvenes Agricultores (ASAJA) de Cádiz under a collaboration agreement with the Diputación Provincial. The aim, according to the organisation, is to highlight the province's primary sector.

What you can find

Around twenty stands exhibit, sell and offer tastings of food and drink from the region: cheeses, cured meats, honey, oil, wines and artisan products, among other offerings. The fair is completed with live cooking demonstrations by chefs from the Sierra gaditana. Taking part in this Saturday's event are Antonio Galindo, from La Divina del Rosalejo; Miguel Ángel Fraidia and Eloy Jiménez, from Pub Andalucía de El Bosque; and tourism promoter Pablo Brandón.

A format now in its third edition

Saborea el campo has been held since 2024 in different parts of the province. The president of the Diputación, Almudena Martínez del Junco, has said that the fair helps attract quality tourism linked to gastronomy and has defended the weight of the primary sector: «It is a strategic sector of our economy and of our identity», she stated, and its workers represent «the economic engine» of the towns. Martínez del Junco highlighted that the Sierra has extensive livestock farming that protects the environment and maintains traditional trades and native breeds, and gave the honey producers of Prado del Rey as an example. She also advocated generational renewal in farming and collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía and ASAJA.

Council's assessment

The mayor of Prado del Rey, Vanesa Beltrán, has said that the fair is «a good opportunity to make our products known to the world» and stressed that the municipality is tied to the rural world. The opening was also attended by the president of ASAJA Cádiz, José Pravia, and the Junta's territorial delegate for Agriculture in Cádiz, Francisco Moreno, among other authorities.

How to attend

The fair is held during the day of this Saturday, October 17, at the Plaza de la Constitución de Prado del Rey, with access to the stands and the cooking demonstrations.
