Las Angustias de San Roque now has a programme for its 50th anniversary

The San Roque brotherhood will hold an extraordinary procession on September 18, 2027, and will spread events until then.
The Venerable Brotherhood and Penitential Confraternity of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias de San Roque has now finalised the programme with which it will commemorate half a century since its reorganisation. The confraternity, known in the municipality as the "Cofradía de la Juventud", presented the calendar of events and the announcement poster on Friday, October 23, at the Palacio de los Gobernadores, under the motto "50 años. Fe, Juventud y Tradición".
A year of events
The programme combines religious, charitable and social activities. The Rosary prayers are held every Monday until May in the Capilla de la Visitación, with the collaboration of the Legión de María. In November, a formation lecture is planned at that same venue on the sixth sorrow of the Virgin and the theological mystery of the Angustias.
Between December and January, toys and food will be collected at the Casa de la Hermandad and the Capilla de la Visitación, as part of the initiative "50 años, 50 gestos de esperanza". A blood donation campaign will also be promoted.
In February, the old Carbonería del Palacio de los Gobernadores will host the brotherhood gathering "50 años de fe". In March, the Capilla de la Visitación will be the setting for an extraordinary triduum and the Anniversary Pregón, with a tribute to the founding brothers.
The pilgrimage and the extraordinary departure
In April 2027, a pilgrimage to the Catedral de Cádiz is planned to pray before the remains of Father Rafael Caldelas. In May there will be a Cruz de Mayo with an extraordinary mass and a gathering of brothers, as well as a hiking outing through the Pinar del Rey that will bring together costaleros, confraternity members, young people and veterans.
The central event will come on September 18, 2027, with an extraordinary departure of the image of the Virgen de las Angustias through the streets of San Roque's Casco Histórico, accompanied by the Agrupación Musical Virgen de los Reyes de Sevilla.
Who organises it
The organisation is handled by the brotherhood, with the collaboration of the Ayuntamiento de San Roque, the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar and the Diputación de Cádiz. The hermano mayor, José María Núñez, explained that the programme "tries to reflect what we are" based on the motto of the celebration. The first deputy mayor and delegate for Traditions, María del Mar Collado, stated that "talking about las Angustias is talking about half a century of living history of San Roque" and invited the population to take part in the celebration.
