More than 200 women from different districts of the province of Cádiz have taken part in an event organised by the Diputación de Cádiz at the La Bendita Locura venue, in El Puerto de Santa María, on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women. The attendees belong to the women's association federations FEMSICA, Sol Rural, El Despertar and La Voz de las Mujeres, attached to the Provincial Council for Equality of the provincial institution.

Recognition of the role of women in villages

The aim of the meeting is to recognise the contribution of rural women to the social, economic and cultural development of their municipalities and to encourage meetings and the exchange of experiences among the associations. The deputy for Equality and Diversity, Susana Sánchez Toro, said during the welcome that "rural women have been, and continue to be, indispensable for sustaining life, the economy and the cohesion of our villages". The programme combined socialising, culture and recognition of female entrepreneurship. The participants shared experiences at La Bendita Locura, a business project driven by women linked to the land and the world of wine, and the event included a musical performance by Milián Oneto with her show "Voces de mujer".

More than 25 years of associative work

According to the Diputación, the celebration follows on from the Rural Feminism recognition event, which highlighted the track record of these organisations, which have more than 25 years of associative work in favour of equality and the strengthening of rural communities. The International Day of Rural Women is commemorated every October 15. On October 15, 2026 the Diputación already held an event at the Palacio Provincial to recognise five organisations for their work in equal opportunities in the least populated areas of the province.
