The two municipal markets in Cádiz, the Central and the Virgen del Rosario, celebrate the main Tosantos day on Monday, October 26. From six in the evening, the stalls taking part in the decoration contest can be visited, and until nine at night there will be children's activities focused on the circus.
What can be seen in each market
At the Central Market there will be a circus gala, entertainment and a workshop. At the Virgen del Rosario, the show «Había una vez un musical de circo» will be performed, with juggling, balancing, hoops, aerial silk and acrobatics workshops, as well as a closing show. At both markets, bags of fruit will be handed out to the youngest children to encourage healthy eating.
The festivities start earlier, on Friday, October 23 at 20:00, with the opening speech by Brenda García and Míriam Ballesteros at the Centro de Arte Flamenco La Merced. Entry is free until full capacity is reached.
Retailers who do not win will receive 150 euros
The City Council, in collaboration with the Association of Retailers of the Municipal Markets (Asodemer), will give 150 euros to all retailers who take part in the decoration contest and do not win a prize, to encourage participation. The registration deadline ends this Wednesday, October 21.
There will also be special lighting in the area around both markets and inside the Central Market, where an outdoor exhibition will be set up and will remain until the end of November.
Schools and Cádiz C. F.
This year the participation of schools is being strengthened, with animated visits to the markets by the company Valle de Cuentos. Asodemer has also offered to bring these visits to the schools themselves.
The Fundación Cádiz C. F. is collaborating for the first time and will give a team shirt to the winners of the two markets and two tickets for the next match to all participants. Its manager, Pepe Mata, has said that «los Tosantos es una tradición de la ciudad y de los gaditanos y desde la Fundación Cádiz CF nos queremos involucrar para que perdure y no se pierda».
What you have to do to take part
Retailers who want to compete in the decorations must register before this Wednesday, October 21. The opening speech on Friday, October 23 is free entry until full capacity is reached at the Centro de Arte Flamenco La Merced.
