The Museo de Chiclana has been hosting the temporary exhibition ‘El Renacimiento, las otras artes’ for a few days, which can be visited until January 10. The exhibition focuses on the fields of knowledge that accompanied the Renaissance beyond painting and the visual arts.

Literature, philosophy and science

According to the Ayuntamiento de Chiclana, the exhibition deals with disciplines apparently far removed from the arts in the strict sense, such as literature, philosophy, theology and mathematics. These are joined by other more applied fields of knowledge, such as anatomy, navigation, medicine and astronomy. The tour also includes Gutenberg's movable type printing press and brings together relevant names of the period from very diverse fields, including Nebrija, Santa Teresa de Jesús, Fray Luis de León, San Juan de la Cruz, Erasmo de Rotterdam, Martín Lutero, Tomás Moro, Juan Luis Vives, Bartolomé de Carranza, Isabel de Villena, Vignola and Pedro de Medina.

Leonardo and Miguel Ángel

The exhibition reserves a special place for Leonardo and Miguel Ángel, who were left out of the previous exhibition, devoted entirely to the painting and visual arts of the Renaissance. The tour suggests that both were more than painters and presents them as representatives of the «Hombre del Renacimiento». The exhibition closes with a selection of 18th- and 19th-century engravings that addresses the false attributions to Leonardo and Miguel Ángel of works by other hands.

Opening

The delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, and the director of the Museo de Chiclana, Jesús Romero, have opened this new exhibition. Rivas has stated that the exhibition «comes to complement the exhibitions we opened two weeks ago on the Renaissance». Romero has highlighted that Leonardo and Miguel Ángel «have left Humanity two great icons with the Mona Lisa and La Creación de Adan».
