Rota has celebrated its 2026 Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, patron saint and honorary mayoress of the Villa. According to the Ayuntamiento, the days have been marked by the participation of roteños and visitors and by the good atmosphere in the streets and squares of the town.
A programme for all ages
The municipal Delegación de Fiestas has organised a programme with traditional and solemn events alongside family activities, children's proposals, music and leisure spaces for young people. The Ayuntamiento states that the programme has required months of planning and that various municipal areas have collaborated in its development.
Among the musical events, the Henry Méndez concert drew a large audience, as did the party and DJ performance, which had the support of young people. The plaza de la Merced hosted the verbena atmosphere with performances by the Orquesta Blue Sound and gastronomic offerings from various hermandades.
Children's events and parade
The children's workshops, the pasacalles and the Roti Gynkana Temática allowed boys and girls to enjoy the festivities. Added to these activities is the amusement park installed on the avenida San Juan de Puerto Rico, which extends the family leisure offering until October 12.
The Gran Cabalgata paraded through the streets of Rota presided over by the Dama Mayor and her Corte de Honor, with a quiet section for people with special sensitivity to noise.
Día de Rota and religious events
The Día de Rota included the raising of the Flag of Rota and an institutional event in the plaza de España, followed by the Gala del Día de Rota in the auditorio municipal 'Alcalde Felipe Benítez'. There, recognition was given to Peña Dosa, the Asociación de Personas con Discapacidad de Rota, Concepción Díaz Robledo, Andrés Barba and José Antonio Moreno Bernal.
The day of October 7, feast of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, concentrated the religious events. The Santo Rosario de la Aurora toured the old town, followed by the Sagrada Eucaristía and the Función Principal de Instituto in the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la O. During this celebration, the mayor of Rota, José Javier Ruiz Arana, presented to the bishop of the Diócesis Asidonia-Jerez, José Rico Pavés, a reproduction of the minutes of the plenary session of January 10, 1951.
In the afternoon, the Solemne Procesión de Nuestra Señora del Rosario Coronada toured the centre of Rota before returning to the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la O. On its arrival, a pyrotechnic show from the Castillo de Luna brought the day to a close.
